Here the teacher is showing some monitoring some strategies by thinking aloud and using electronic post-its to represent the questions and barriers to comprehension that occur in her reading. I like that the article chosen is about a manta ray, an animal that may not be familiar to most readers, including the speaker. I think it is important lesson for students to see that adults have the same types of comprehension barriers when reading about something unfamiliar. She also talks about how individual knowledge plays a role in comprehension.

This video does a good job of relating how comprehension monitoring is essential for active reading. She talks about the preparation of reading, how students can track their understanding, and how they can apply reading comprehension strategies. In this website, we have talked a lot about reading comprehension, but the ability for the students to stop and deal with their confusion and then initiate their own learning (through tracking and applying) is the important aspect of this video for student learning.
