List, Group, Label (Why should we use it?)
According to readingrockets.org, this strategy is another variation of semantic mapping. While students are using this strategy, they improve their vocabulary and categorization skills by grouping concepts. The website states, "It actively engages students in learning new vocabulary and content by activating their critical thinking skills." This method is helpful for students to improve their categorizing and labeling skills.
According to Wikipedia, "LGL Strategy was developed primarily for use in the social studies classroom." "It was originally introduced by Hilda Taba in her book, Teachers' handbook to Elementary Social Studies," (1967). This strategy emphasizes that categorizing words will help students with organizing new words and concepts. It was aimed to help students with technical vocabulary in social studies and science classes.
