I thought this was a great video that could also be used with older children to show the important parts involved in summarizing a story. The example in the video is the book, The Giver. I liked how she broke the important part of the summary into three parts: the source, the audience and the purpose of the summary. It helps to give students a clear vision of what they need to accomplish.

Video 2
I liked this video because it differentiates between different types of summaries that I think is important when teaching summaries. Many students don't seem to know how much to write, but here the presenter is showing how summaries might be done for an entire text, part of a text or for ideas spread throughout the text. She then goes into more detail about summarizing everything from cookbooks, to debatable topics.
